The Planning & Zoning Department guides how land in the township is used and developed. It ensures that growth is safe, orderly, and consistent with the township’s long‑term vision. This department supports the Planning Commission, Zoning Board of Appeals, and Township Board in making informed land‑use decisions.

  1. Land Use Planning
    • Supports the Planning Commission in creating and updating the township’s Master Plan, which guides future development, infrastructure, and community character
  2. Zoning Ordinance Administration
    • Administers and enforces the township’s zoning ordinance, ensuring land use complies with local regulations
  3. Reviewing Applications
    • Reviews land‑use applications such as zoning permits, special use permits, variances, and parcel splits for completeness and ordinance compliance
  4. Support for Boards & Commissions
    • Serves as staff support for the Planning Commission and Zoning Board of Appeals, preparing reports, ordinance references, and recommendations
  5. Inspections & Compliance
    • Performs site inspections to ensure land‑use changes match approved permits and zoning requirements
    • Issues violation notices and civil infractions when necessary
  6. Recordkeeping
    • Maintains records of zoning permits, applications, maps, and supporting documentation at the township office
  7. Public Assistance
    • Helps residents, builders, and developers understand zoning rules, permitted uses, and the development review process
