Notice of Public Hearing
The Jonesfield Township Planning Commission of Saginaw County, Michigan will hold a public
hearing at a special meeting on Thursday, May 28, 2026, at 7:00 p.m., at 217 N Eddy Street,
Merrill, MI 48637. The purpose of the hearing is to consider a request for a special use permit and
site plan application by DTE Electric Company (“Applicant”) to construct, maintain, and operate
a proposed battery energy storage system (“BESS”) in the Township referred to as the Meridian
Battery Energy Storage System (“Project”) pursuant to the Jonesfield Township Zoning Ordinance.
The proposed Project consists of, among other improvements, BESS equipment, inverters and
underground electrical components, ingress/egress drives, fencing, landscape buffers, and other
associated improvements.

The Applicant’s application for the proposed Project, including corresponding site plans, is
available for review upon request to the Township during ordinary business hours at 149 N.
Midland Street, Merrill, MI 48637, or online at https://spicerplanning.wordpress.com. The
application will also be available at the public hearing.
Written comments on the Project and the Applicant’s corresponding zoning requests will be
received by the Township by mail to P.O. Box 117, Merrill, MI 48637, by hand-delivery at the
Township Offices at the address listed below during ordinary business hours, or by e-mail to
clerk@jonesfield.com. Individuals can also address the Planning Commission during the public
hearing to comment on the aforementioned zoning requests and the proposed Project. Upon
request, the Township will provide auxiliary aids or services to individuals with disabilities.
Individuals with disabilities requiring auxiliary aids or services who are planning to attend the
public hearing should notify the Township at 989-750-1737 or utilize the Michigan Relay Service
(7-1-1; T-D-D) at least five (5) days in advance of the public hearing.
